  Series 2
What is Information Assets Management

Information Assets Management is comprised of various systems integrated together:

Records Management systems control the recorded information that is required in the continuance or recovery of an enterprise's business. Such control is exercised over the creation, distribution, usage, retention, and final disposition of all types of records within an enterprise.

Document Management systems keep track of stored documents that have been scanned into the computer, or created in word-processing, spreadsheet, or other applications. This "library service" manages document use and controls document revisions.

Retention Schedules are usually associated with Records Management Systems. Retention Schedules determine when documents should be archived and destroyed based upon their subject matter, laws, industry standards and corporate policy.

Workflow Management systems manage and coordinate the flow of work among participants, together with the appropriate data resources. The coordination involves passing tasks from participant to participant in correct sequence, ensuring that all fulfill required contributions.
